Turquoise melts into peach and yellow across this printed silk.

The gradient runs the length of the cloth, and small floral and leaf vine motifs are printed densely over the top of it, with navy blue and pale grey picking out the detail. A rectangular border of repeating petalled motifs runs parallel to the edge, and tassels finish the dupatta. Very little in this catalogue looks like it.

Printing over shifting ground is difficult. The same motif reads differently as the base moves from turquoise through peach to yellow, so the artisan adjusts as they go, block by hand-carved block. The register variation this produces is the mark of authentic hand block work rather than a fault. Across all those colour changes the silk stays colour-fast and does not bleed on the first wash.

The silk is opaque, so no lining is needed, though a lining can be added to elevate the look. Stitch it up to 4XL for a straight kurta set, with the length customised for larger sizes, and plan the cut so the colour transition falls where you want it on the finished kurta.

This is the length the Bhagalpur workshop slows down for. The colour moves under the artisan's hands as they work, turquoise giving way to peach and then to yellow, and the carved wooden block has to meet each stretch on its own terms. Motifs are stamped one at a time along the shifting ground, the petalled border set parallel to the edge, the tassels knotted at the end. Nothing about it repeats mechanically, because nothing about it was made mechanically.

1. Will the shades run into each other when it is washed?
No. The fabric is colour-fast and does not bleed on the first wash, so the turquoise, peach and yellow stay where they are. Dry clean the first wash, then a gentle cold hand wash at home.

That depends on where your tailor cuts. Lay the full 2.5 m out and decide where you want the shade change to fall on the kurta before cutting.
