Two colours, many grids

Mustard yellow and blue are set side by side in defined panels, each filled with a different geometry: linear grids, small checkerboards, rows of semi-circles, picked out in white, black and brown. Straight vertical panels run down the dupatta and end in fringe.

Styling

Mustard is the shade that lifts a dull working week, and the blue keeps it from tipping into loud. Stitch the top so a single colour dominates and use the other for the sleeve bands, and keep jewellery to a minimum since the panels are already doing the talking.

Because every impression is stamped by hand, small shifts in the print are part of the piece, not a fault in it.

Colour-blocking by hand means every panel edge is a decision, made without a machine to hold the line. In Bhagalpur several different blocks are worked across the mustard and blue Katan silk, a grid here, a checkerboard there, a row of semi-circles between them. Every impression is placed by hand, so the small shifts where two blocks meet are the artisan's signature rather than a fault.

1. Will the blue run into the yellow in the wash?
No. The fabric is colour-fast and does not bleed on the first wash, so lighter areas of the print stay clean.

2. How can I tell this is genuinely hand block printed?
Look closely at the repeats. Every motif is stamped from a hand-carved wooden block, so the register shifts a little and no two impressions land identically. A screen or machine print gives a flat, perfectly uniform repeat; this one does not.

3. Is there enough fabric for a larger size?
Yes. With 2.5 metres on every piece it stitches up to 4XL for a straight kurta set, and the length can be customised for larger sizes.

4. Does it need a lining?
No. The fabric is opaque, so it can be stitched unlined. A lining is purely optional, added only to elevate the look.

5. Can I exchange it if the colours are not what I hoped for?
