The dupatta

This is the piece that decides the set. A wide vertical band of repeating geometric shapes in blue runs beside a central panel, closed by a thin metallic-toned finished edge. Blue and gold against magenta is a deliberate contrast rather than a matching pairing, and it lifts the whole outfit.

The print

Small floral sprigs in white cover the printed pieces densely, while one piece is left solid magenta. That combination gives you room to decide: a printed kurta over a plain bottom, or the reverse for something quieter.

Each border block is aligned to the previous one by eye, so the band steps very slightly as it travels. That is the record of the hand that placed it.

The fabric

Katan silk with a soft lustre and a graceful fall, opaque enough to need no lining and light across all three pieces. It is colour-fast and does not bleed on the first wash.

In Bhagalpur, the field is printed first, and only then does the printer lay the wide geometric band along the edge, placing each block against the last by eye so the border runs true from end to end. The blocks themselves are carved by hand before any of it begins. It is exacting work, done entirely without screens or machines, and the small steps you can find in the finished band are the evidence of a person standing at the table.

Yes. With 2.5 m in each piece, the set can be stitched up to 4XL for straight kurta sets, and the length can be customised for larger sizes. It is a good gift for that reason too, since nothing depends on knowing someone's exact measurements.

3. How do I know this is genuinely hand block printed?
Look closely at the print. Hand-carved wooden blocks are stamped one impression at a time, so the motifs sit fractionally out of register in places and the colour density varies from block to block. Screen and machine printing produce perfectly identical repeats; this suit does not, because it is printed by hand in Bhagalpur.

4. Will the colours bleed when I wash it?
No. The fabric is colour-fast and does not bleed on the first wash, and it stays colour-fast after washing. Dry clean it the first time, then a gentle cold hand wash keeps it looking new.

5. Does it need a lining or aster?
No, the fabric is opaque on its own and needs no lining. Some customers add one anyway to give the kurta more body and a more formal fall, but that is a styling choice, not a necessity.

6. What if the shade or the quality is not what I expected?
