The leaf repeat

The motif is deliberately small - a stylised leaf, printed dense on the top and dupatta so that from a step away the fabric reads as texture rather than pattern. Each leaf was stamped by hand with a carved wooden block, and the tiny variations from one impression to the next, the slight lean, the occasional heavier press, are what mark it as hand work rather than a machine repeat.

The banded border

Where the top is all-over print, the dupatta and the bottom are finished with a linear geometric band that frames them and stops the leaf work running to the edge. It is the detail that makes this set look considered when stitched, and it is worth telling your tailor to keep the band intact at the hem rather than cutting through it.

The silk

Katan silk gives the beige a matte, restrained surface with sheen underneath rather than on top - the reason this earthy palette reads expensive instead of plain. For a small motif like this leaf, the block is the size of a palm and the work is unforgiving: hundreds of impressions across a single length, each one placed against the last without a guideline, each one pressed with the heel of the hand so the dye takes evenly into the silk. The geometric band along the dupatta is stamped with a separate carved block, laid down after the field is printed and dry. 1. How do I know the print is done by hand and not by machine?
Each leaf is stamped individually with a hand-carved wooden block, so the repeat carries small irregularities - a leaf slightly off register, an impression a little deeper than its neighbour. A screen or machine print repeats identically across the whole length. Those variations are the proof of genuine hand block work.

2. Will the beige and brown fade or bleed when washed?
No. The fabric is colour-fast and does not bleed on the first wash. Dry clean it the first time, then wash it gently in cold water by hand to keep the tones as they arrived.

3. What does the unstitched set include?
Three pieces: a top of 2.5 metres at 44 to 45 inches wide, a bottom of 2.5 metres at 44 to 45 inches wide, and a dupatta of 2.5 metres at 35 to 36 inches wide. Because nothing is pre-stitched, your tailor can cut the exact silhouette and fit you want.

4. Can this be stitched for a plus size?
Yes. It can be stitched up to 4XL for a straight kurta set, and the length can be customised for larger sizes. Ask your tailor to keep the geometric band border whole at the hem when cutting.

5. Do I need to add a lining?
No lining is needed - the fabric is opaque on its own. A lining is optional if you want a fuller fall and a dressier finish.

6. What if the shade is not what I expected when it arrives?
