Made by hand in Bhagalpur

Each leaf is stamped individually with a hand-carved wooden block by artisans in Bhagalpur, a long-established centre of Indian silk textiles. No screen, no machine. The small differences in ink weight and placement from one leaf to the next are the signature of that process. The colours are colour-fast and do not bleed on the first wash.

Bhagalpur has worked with silk for generations, and block printing arrived there as a craft of patience rather than speed. A leaf is carved into wood, inked, and set down on the cloth by hand, one impression at a time, until the whole length is covered. The artisan reads the fabric as they go, adjusting pressure so the cream sits crisply on the cyan. The ornamental edge band and its fringe are the last touches, added by hand.
