Fine cream vines run across deep blue silk, small and close-set.

The three pieces are printed differently on purpose. The top carries the vine pattern all over in a small, dense repeat; the dupatta is quieter, with a continuous rectangular floral border framing an open field; the bottom is left almost plain with a single printed band at the hem. Stitched together it reads as one deliberate outfit rather than three matched lengths.

Hand-carved blocks, hand-stamped

The vine is cut into a wooden block and pressed onto the silk by hand in Bhagalpur. At this small a scale the register variation between impressions is visible up close, and it is the clearest evidence you have of genuine hand block work. Deep colours on silk raise the obvious worry, so it is worth saying plainly: this fabric is colour-fast and does not bleed on the first wash.

The silk is opaque, so no lining is needed, though a lining can be added to elevate the look. It can be stitched up to 4XL for a straight kurta set, with the length customised for larger sizes. Ask your tailor to keep the dupatta border running unbroken along the finished edge.

A vine this fine has to be carved before it can be printed. The block-maker cuts the stem, the turn of the leaf and the small petals into wood; the printer then inks it and walks the length of the silk, laying one impression against the last so the vine appears to grow continuously. The border on the dupatta needs a different block again, aligned edge to edge without a gap. Generations of Bhagalpur hands have learned this rhythm, and it still moves at the speed of a person, not a machine.

It is hand block printed with hand-carved wooden blocks by artisans in Bhagalpur. Look along the vine and you will see the joins between impressions and slight register variation, which a machine or screen print does not produce.

4. Can it be stitched up to a plus size?
Yes. The 2.5 m per piece allows a straight kurta set up to 4XL, and the length can be customised for larger sizes.

5. Should I line the kurta?
No lining is needed, as the fabric is opaque. A lining can be added if you prefer a more elevated fall.

6. What if the blue looks different from the photos?
