Two scales

The top is printed in vertical rows of small repeating geometric shapes, close and regular, with gold and yellow catching between them. It is a print you read as texture more than pattern.

The dupatta goes the other way: large floral and geometric panels laid out in blocks, edged with decorative geometric bands along straight edges. Same palette, opposite scale, and that is what keeps a pink and black set from looking like one flat idea.

Styling

Pink carried by black takes gold jewellery easily and moves from an office day into an evening function without a change of register. Cut the salwar from the finely printed piece and let the dupatta panels stay whole.

The silk

Katan silk gives the pink its sheen and the black panels their weight, and drapes gracefully instead of holding a stiff shape. It is opaque, so no lining is needed, and all three pieces together weigh only 600 to 650 g.

Look where two panels meet and the alignment shifts slightly. A hand placed each one.

The large panel blocks on the dupatta are heavy things, cut deep in wood so that a whole floral arrangement lifts off the face in one press. The artisan inks the block, positions it against the last panel, and puts weight through it with the heel of the hand.

The small geometric block used on the top is the opposite: light, quick, repeated in vertical rows until the length is covered. Both are carved and stamped in Bhagalpur. Where the large panels meet you can see the joins shift a fraction, and in the small rows you can see the ink deepen and lighten. Neither would happen under a screen.

1. What comes in the set, and will there be enough fabric for a larger size?
Three unstitched pieces: a top of 2.5 m at 44 to 45 inches wide, a bottom of 2.5 m at 44 to 45 inches wide, and a dupatta of 2.5 m at 35 to 36 inches wide. That stitches up to 4XL for a straight kurta set, and the length can be customised for larger sizes.

2. Will the black run onto the pink when I wash it?
No. The fabric is colour-fast and does not bleed on the first wash, and stays colour-fast afterwards. Dry clean it the first time, then a gentle cold hand wash.

3. Is the print genuinely done by hand?
Yes. Artisans in Bhagalpur stamp both the small geometric rows and the large dupatta panels with hand-carved wooden blocks. Where two large panels join you will see the alignment shift very slightly, and in the small rows the ink deepens and lightens between impressions. A screen or machine print is uniform throughout.

4. Is the dupatta matching or contrast?
It shares the pink and black palette of the top but changes scale completely, carrying large floral and geometric panels with decorative band edges instead of the fine repeating rows.

5. Is a lining required?
No. The fabric is opaque, so no lining or aster is needed. A lining is optional if you want a more structured finish.

6. How soon will it be dispatched?
It is dispatched the next working day. The printing is done by hand, but the set is ready rather than made to order.

7. What if the pink is not what I expected?
Pinks shift between screens more than most shades. If the shade or the quality is not loved, an exchange is available.
