The dupatta

The border on this dupatta is deliberately uneven. A vertical panel of small plum florals runs down one edge, and a horizontal patterned band closes the base, leaving the rest of the peach ground open. Against a solid peach top and bottom, that asymmetry is the whole design.

Styling

Solid peach with a single dark border is the most forgiving thing to stitch: a straight kurta, a plain bottom, and the dupatta does everything. Drape it so the printed edge falls forward and the plum reads as a deliberate line down one side. Pearls or a single plum-toned stone are enough; heavy jewellery fights the softness of the shade.

Because it is stamped rather than woven, the florals along the panel vary a little in depth of colour.

Most block-printed sets fill the cloth. This one holds back. The Bhagalpur artisan printed a single vertical panel down one edge of the dupatta and one band across its base, which means every impression is exposed with nothing around it to hide behind. Small-scale florals like these are among the finest blocks in the workshop, cut so shallow that the plum sits like ink on the peach.

1. Will the dark plum border bleed onto the peach?
No. The fabric is colour-fast and does not bleed on the first wash, which is exactly the reassurance a light peach ground under a dark border needs.

2. What comes in the set, and can it be stitched for a larger size?
Three unstitched pieces: a top of 2.5 m, a bottom of 2.5 m, both 44 to 45 inches wide, and a dupatta of 2.5 m at 35 to 36 inches. That meterage lets a tailor cut it to your exact fit, up to 4XL, and the length can be customised for larger sizes.

3. How should I care for it?
Dry clean the first wash, then wash it gently by hand in cold water. The fabric is colour-fast and does not bleed on the first wash, so the print stays where the artisan put it.

4. Do I need a lining under this kurta?
No. The silk is opaque, so it needs no lining or aster. Many customers add one anyway, purely to give the kurta more body and a more formal fall.

5. What if I do not like the shade when it arrives?
Exchange is available if the shade or the quality is not what you loved. Screens do shift colour a little, so the fabric can read slightly warmer or cooler in daylight than it does on your phone.
