The design

The body is unbroken colour, held at the long edges by a narrow zari border with fine parallel banding. The pallu opens into copper, striped across its width in golden zari. The bugdi border reads the same on both faces.

Handwoven on a pit loom in Maheshwar, Khargone district, Madhya Pradesh, with the weft inserted by hand. The Handloom Mark is held with the registration on record.

Care and storage

1. Dry clean only, by a professional cleaner

A plain body is harder than a patterned one. There is nowhere for a mistake to hide, and the weaver has to hold the beat even across metres of magenta before the copper of the pallu begins.

When it does begin, the zari comes across the width in stripes, and the cloth changes character entirely at the shoulder.

8. Can I wear this to a wedding?
